Course Code: MAN 201                     Course Name: Principles of Accounting I

Course Objectives: The objectives of this course are to develop a basic understanding on: Basic accounting concepts and principles; recording transactions; preparation of trial balance, balance sheet and income statement; opening and closing the accounts; accounting for different business organizations.

2nd & 3rd Week: Basic Financial Statements

4th & 5th Week: The Accounting Cycle: Capturing Economics Events

1st Midterm Exam

7th Week: The Accounting Cycle: Accruals and Deferrals

8th & 9th Week: The Accounting Cycle: Reporting Financial Results

2nd Midterm Exam

11th, & 12th Week: Accounting for Merchandising Activities

13th & 14th Week: Inventories and the Cost of Goods Sold

 

IV. EXAM DATES, GRADING POLICY AND ATTENDANCE

Exam Dates

Midterm Exam: The dates will be announced fifteen days before the exam. 

Final Exams:     January 16-27, 2006

Grading Policy

1st. Midterm Exam: 30 %, 2nd. Midterm Exam: 30 %, Final Exam: 40 %,

Homework & Class Participation: 10 % (Bonus).

Attendance

Classroom attendance is mandatory. Students, who are absent over 30% of the class time fail the course.
